1½ cups of warm water
1 teaspoon of salt
1 tablespoon of brown sugar
2 tablespoons of melted butter
4 cups of all-purpose flour
For the egg wash:
1 egg
1 tablespoon of water
For the baking soda bath:
9 cups of water
½ cup of baking soda
For the cinnamon sugar coating:
¼ cup of melted butter
3/4 cup of sugar
3 teaspoon of cinnamon
For the cream cheese dip (optional)
4 ounces cream cheese (softened)
¼ cup of butter (softened)
½ teaspoon of vanilla
1 ½ cups of powdered sugar
Instructions:
To begin, you want to dissolve your yeast in warm water in a large bowl. Then add your salt, sugar and butter and stir it all together. Add in the flour, one cup at at time. If the dough is sticky, add more flour 1 tablespoon at a time until it bounces back when poked. After that you want to lightly flour a flat surface and knead your dough to form a ball. Then, oil a large bowl and place your dough in it. Allow it to rest for 30 mins. While it rests, preheat your oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit (220 degrees Celsius). Bring the water and baking soda to a boil.
After that, cut the dough into 6 parts and roll out each of these parts into a rope. Cut each of these ropes into about 10 to 12 pieces, 1 - 1.5 inches each. Then drop 10-12 bites at a time into the baking soda for 20-30 seconds and then remove and place them on a tray. Beat the egg and the water with a fork. Then brush egg over each pretzel bite. After that, place them in the oven and bake them for about 15 minutes. Then remove from oven and mix together cinnamon and sugar Last, dip each pretzel into melted butter and then cinnamon sugar.
Cream cheese dip (optional):
Mix together butter and cream cheese and add in powdered sugar and vanilla.
